Assistant Professor of German
Starting Fall 2013
The Department of German Studies invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in German, to begin in September 2013. Salary will be competitive and consistent with level of experience. The successful candidate will be expected to teach six courses per year at all levels of German language and culture while contributing to the vitality of a small but growing German program in the context of the liberal arts. Ph.D. in German (or evidence of imminent completion) required, as well as native or near-native abilities in both German and English. We are seeking well-rounded candidates with training in Second Language Acquisition and experience in content-based instruction and undergraduate curriculum development. Candidates possessing experience with innovative course and program design and who are able to apply current trends in SLA to the further development of our dynamic German program are highly desirable. The successful candidate will have the ability to teach a broad range of courses covering language, literature, visual media and the cultures of German-speaking countries. The person who holds this position will also be expected to advise students and supervise senior projects.
Candidates are expected to have strong interest in undergraduate teaching, a commitment to the liberal arts, and a desire to contribute to the College's interdisciplinary Shared Passages general education curriculum which consists of first year, sophomore and senior seminars.
