Choosing to a attend college in one’s hometown may not seem like a deep dive to some. Unless we’re talking about the K-Plan and Kalamazoo native, and six-time All-American diver, Tim Ullrey.

“I chose K because I could participate in sports, but they wouldn’t consume my life,” says Tim. “And the study abroad program was something that always interested me. I had never lived outside of Kalamazoo, so living and studying in Madrid was incredibly eye-opening for me.”

Tim majored in physics, earned a minor in mathematics, and completed a Senior Individualized Project on optics. As a Hornet diver he earned all-conference honors in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association four times. He was a three-time conference champion, twice on the one-meter (1M) and once on the three-meter (3M). He finished third in the nation on the 3M in 2001 and fourth in the nation on the 1M in 2003. He was a key contributor to his teams’ national NCAA finishes of twelfth, ninth, sixth, and tenth.

After K, Tim earned an advanced degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Michigan. During his career he has worked on projects in numerous industries, including automotive, office furniture, consumer products, medical devices, and battery technology, among others. He has also become a successful project manager and holds Project Management Professional Certification.
