Noam Chomsky is a linguist, philosopher, and political activist from the US. He speaks of the ways neoliberalism came to be, how it became what it is today, and what it means in the context of today’s US politics. Chomsky tells us, “Social democracy… That’s sometimes called “the golden age of modern capitalism.”… Its crucial principle is undermining mechanisms of social solidarity and mutual support and popular engagement in determining policy… It’s not called that. What it’s called is “freedom,” but “freedom” means a subordination to the decisions of concentrated, unaccountable, private power.”. Chomsy is a professor of linguistics at MIT.
