Assistant Professor of Political Science
The Department of Political Science at Kalamazoo College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level beginning September 2014. The department encourages applications from scholars in any field of American politics. Teaching responsibilities will consist of six courses per year, including Introduction to US Politics, taught biannually. Candidates should also be able to teach Civil Liberties and/or Constitutional Law and one or more of the following: The Presidency and/or the Congress, Political Parties, Environmental Politics, Race Politics, and Urban or State and Local Politics. The successful candidate will have demonstrated a high aptitude and interest in undergraduate teaching including contributing to the College's "Shared Passages" core curriculum (first-year, sophomore, and senior seminars), a commitment to the liberal arts, and a desire to involve undergraduates in scholarship both inside and outside the classroom. Applicants are encouraged to discuss how their teaching of and research in American politics will engage an increasingly diverse student body, and discuss their potential interest in interdisciplinary programs at the College or experiential education programs such as service-learning or the Arcus Center for Social Justice Leadership. Ph.D. (or evidence it will be completed by September 1, 2014) required. Salary is competitive and consistent with level of experience.
