{"id":24848,"date":"2025-05-22T09:57:35","date_gmt":"2025-05-22T13:57:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kzoo.edu\/news\/?p=24848"},"modified":"2025-05-22T09:57:37","modified_gmt":"2025-05-22T13:57:37","slug":"2025-heyl-scholars","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kzoo.edu\/news\/2025-heyl-scholars\/","title":{"rendered":"Six New Heyl Scholars to Attend K in 2025\u201326"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-1 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Six Kalamazoo County high school students seeking to major in STEM-related fields will attend Kalamazoo College in the 2025-26 academic year as Heyl scholars.\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/heyl.kzoo.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Heyl Scholarship Fund<\/a> was established in 1971 through the will of\u202fDr. Frederick Heyl\u202fand Mrs. Elsie Heyl. Frederick Heyl was the first chemist at The Upjohn Company, later becoming a vice president and the company\u2019s first director of research. When he retired in 1945, he had contributed scientifically to about 80 research papers and patents while also teaching chemistry at Kalamazoo College.
