{"id":24128,"date":"2025-02-21T16:45:32","date_gmt":"2025-02-21T21:45:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kzoo.edu\/news\/?p=24128"},"modified":"2025-02-21T21:35:01","modified_gmt":"2025-02-22T02:35:01","slug":"neurodiversity-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kzoo.edu\/news\/neurodiversity-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Neurodiversity Week Begins Monday at K"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-1 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/learningsupport.kzoo.edu\/\">Learning Support Center<\/a> at Kalamazoo College has a week of events scheduled that will challenge stereotypes and misconceptions about neurological differences between people on campus and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Neurodiversity Week, starting Monday, will provide the K community a chance to recognize the skills and talents of neurodivergent individuals, while creating more inclusive and equitable cultures that celebrate differences and empower every individual. Events will include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Snacks and games in the Learning Support Room daily.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Panel pop-ups from 11 a.m.\u20131 p.m. Monday\u2013Wednesday at Hicks Student Center. Students and staff will answer questions and engage students in conversations about neurodiversity across campus. There will also be giveaways, raffles and a vote for what fidget toy the Learning Support Center will 3D print next.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A sharing of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kzoo.edu\/k-plan\/sip\/\">Senior Integrated Projects<\/a> from 7\u20139 p.m. Wednesday in the Learning Support Center at the library. Seniors will talk about their SIP processes and experiences as neurodiverse students.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A neurodiversity mixer from 3\u20135 p.m. Thursday in the Learning Commons. The event will serve as a crafting party with make-your-own brain collages, snacks and games. Students can also meet the Learning Support Center mascots: axolotls of all kinds because you need to \u201caxolotl\u201d questions to succeed. A grand prize raffle winner will receive a large stuffed axolotl.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A fidget-toy petting zoo from 4\u20135 p.m. Friday in the Learning Commons.
