{"id":23453,"date":"2024-10-21T10:42:22","date_gmt":"2024-10-21T14:42:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kzoo.edu\/news\/?p=23453"},"modified":"2024-10-21T15:07:04","modified_gmt":"2024-10-21T19:07:04","slug":"brighter-light-campaign-raises-over-200-million","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kzoo.edu\/news\/brighter-light-campaign-raises-over-200-million\/","title":{"rendered":"Kalamazoo College&#8217;s Brighter Light Campaign Raises Over $200 Million"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Campaign exceeds $190 million fundraising goal<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-1 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p>The Brighter Light Campaign, Kalamazoo College\u2019s largest-ever fundraising campaign, has come to an end, raising a total of $203,236,489 from more than 16,500 donors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Launched publicly in 2021, the campaign originally set out to raise $150 million to support \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kzoo.edu\/brighterlight\/brighter-opportunities\/\">Brighter Opportunities<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kzoo.edu\/brighterlight\/brighter-minds\/\">Brighter Minds<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kzoo.edu\/brighterlight\/brighter-experiences\/\">Brighter Experiences<\/a>\u201d for K students through scholarships, faculty support, funding for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kzoo.edu\/k-plan\/study-abroad\/\">study abroad<\/a> and other curricular and co-curricular experiences, <a href=\"https:\/\/hornets.kzoo.edu\/\">athletics<\/a> and campus improvements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2023, the College received an anonymous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kzoo.edu\/news\/generous-gift\/\">$30 million gift<\/a> in support of residential life and student success programs\u2014the biggest single gift commitment in the institution\u2019s history. With the announcement of the gift, the College marked its 190<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary by expanding its campaign goal to $190 million\u2014a goal the institution has successfully surpassed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am so profoundly grateful to the thousands of members of the K community and beyond who have given so generously to the Brighter Light Campaign,\u201d said President Jorge G. Gonzalez. \u201cThis historic achievement\u2014the largest fundraising effort in K\u2019s history\u2014shows that our community believes in the exceptional education that Kalamazoo College delivers to our students. The campaign\u2019s success will support the College in implementing its strategic plan and enable K students and alumni to bring a brighter light to the world\u2014today and for years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With gifts ranging from $5 to $30 million, generous alumni, parents and friends, along with numerous foundations and corporations, were instrumental in strengthening K\u2019s ability to improve student experiences and campus facilities. Some of the funding highlights include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>More than $81 million in scholarships to help K create Brighter Opportunities for more students, regardless of need.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Investments in Brighter Minds\u2014including five new and augmented endowed faculty chairs, faculty development funds, and endowed support of experiential learning centers and programs\u2014to ensure K\u2019s tradition of exceptional undergraduate teaching and mentorship continues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Gifts for athletics and arts programs, along with support for several critical campus projects, including construction of the natatorium, renovations to Stetson Chapel, modernized classrooms, and a new roof for Dow Science Center\u2014that are helping to create Brighter Experiences for K students. &nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>More than $89 million for the College\u2019s endowment, providing vital support not only for today, but for generations of students to come.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Karen Isble, vice president for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kzoo.edu\/giving\/development-staff\/\">College Advancement<\/a>, shared, \u201cThe success of the Brighter Light Campaign has been the result of the efforts of many colleagues\u2014current and past\u2014and countless hours by the dedicated volunteers who help us engage alumni and encourage giving each year.
