Dear Campus Community:<\/p>\n

For the past year,\u00a0we\u00a0have borne\u00a0witness\u00a0to\u00a0increased incidents of racism and harassment\u00a0toward\u00a0Asians, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders\u00a0in this country.\u00a0A report released this week from the organization Stop AAPI Hate\u00a0revealed\u00a0that\u00a0nearly 3,800 hate and harassment incidents against Asian Americans and Pacific\u00a0Islanders\u00a0were reported to them\u00a0in the last 11 months, and women made up the highest share of the reports, at 68 percent.\u00a0While these types of incidents are\u2014sadly\u2014not a new phenomenon\u00a0in our society,\u00a0racist\u00a0rhetoric being used around the pandemic has exacerbated these\u00a0attacks.\u00a0Frequent news reports of individuals being assaulted and the recent murders of eight people\u2014including six\u00a0Asian women\u2014in Atlanta have\u00a0put a glaring spotlight on these issues and they demand our attention.<\/p>\n

We stand\u00a0with our Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander students, faculty, staff and alumni to oppose hate, discrimination and intolerance.\u00a0We are an intercultural community, and we\u00a0urge\u00a0each person\u00a0to show compassion and care toward those communities who\u00a0are feeling vulnerable.\u00a0Please check in with your peers and colleagues, stand with them and offer your support.<\/p>\n
