A veteran of four Space Shuttle missions and former Director of NASA\u2019s Johnson Space Center, Dr. Ellen Ochoa, the first Hispanic woman to travel to space, will share firsthand reflections on leadership, perseverance, scientific discovery, and the importance of representation. Free and open to the public. Religious people are coming together across religious and non-religious differences to change the food system. In our 2026 Thompson Lecture in Religion, Adrienne Krone will provide insights into these religious communities from her new book\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/uncpress.org\/9781469690322\/free-range-religion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Free-Range Religion: Alternative Food Movements and Religious Life in the United States<\/a><\/em>. The book is an ethnographic exploration of four religious alternative food movement communities: a religious diet, a pasture-raised cattle farm, a Jewish farm, and a Jewish retreat center that observed the biblical agricultural sabbatical year. Krone will describe all four sites and the food systems and religious complexities they each produce. Adrienne Krone is associate professor of environmental science and sustainability and religious studies at Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania. Her work focuses on religious food justice movements in North America.
