The Department of Biology at Kalamazoo College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level, to begin September 2013. We seek a broadly trained Microbiologist. Successful applicants will contribute to the department's core curriculum in the Evolution & Genetics course, in addition to developing upper level lecture/laboratory courses in their areas of expertise and occasionally offering courses aimed at non-majors. A high aptitude and interest in undergraduate teaching, a commitment to the liberal arts and a desire to establish and maintain an active research program involving undergraduates is expected. Applicants may wish to address their interest in and desire to participate in the college's Community & Global Health concentration, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology concentration, and/or Shared Passages Seminars. A completed Ph.D. is required and post-doctoral experience is preferred.

Kalamazoo College is a highly selective, nationally known liberal arts college of approximately 1350 motivated students offering an integrated undergraduate experience that weaves a traditional liberal arts curriculum into domestic and international educational experiences. The Biology Department graduates about 50 majors each year, including many who pursue graduate-level work in the discipline. Recently the Arcus Center for Social Justice Leadership was founded at the College, offering opportunities for successful applicants to engage in projects at the interface of science and social justice. The campus is located midway between Chicago and Detroit in Kalamazoo, Michigan, a metropolitan community of 225,000 which supports four college and university campuses along with numerous civic arts and cultural associations. Thirty-five miles from Lake Michigan, the area offers many opportunities for outdoor activities.
