… will graduate from Kalamazoo College in 2017<\/strong>.\"AARON<\/p>\n

The Los Angeles<\/strong> native loves the city of Kalamazoo, especially the downtown community activities that attract hundreds of people to events like BluesFest<\/strong> and RibFest<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Aaron\u2019s major<\/strong> is biology<\/strong> and he\u2019ll earn a minor<\/strong> in Chinese<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Major:<\/strong> Biology, pre-med track<\/p>\n

Minor:<\/strong> Chinese<\/p>\n

Learning through Experience:<\/strong> Internship at international hospital in Beijing; officer of the Young Men of Color student organization<\/p>\n

Study Abroad:<\/strong> Beijing, China for 6 months<\/p>\n

SIP:<\/strong> Exploring the way a microscopic round worm (nematode) pathogenic to insect larvae uses bacteria to keep other nematodes away from the host it has invaded\n<\/div>\n

He chose K for many reasons, first among them was the quality of its MCAT preparation<\/strong> (Medical College Admission Test). After graduation Aaron plans to attend med school and specialize in cardiology.<\/p>\n

Aaron studied abroad<\/strong> in China, where he also completed an internship<\/strong> at an international hospital in the city of Beijing.<\/p>\n

For his Senior Individualized Project<\/strong>, Aaron is exploring the way a microscopic round worm (nematode) that is pathogenic to insect larvae uses bacteria to keep other nematodes away from the host it has invaded: germ warfare on an arthropod battlefield, literally. It\u2019s cool research and painstaking work…<\/p>\n

…and Aaron “lets of\"AARONf steam” by playing lots of pick-up basketball<\/strong> and “rock” climbing<\/strong> at the nearby climbing gym, Climb Kalamazoo. He loves the physical and cerebral challenge of bouldering\u2019s shorter, more puzzling, routes.\u00a0 Aaron has fulfilled his physical education<\/strong> credit with three classes in climbing, one in hoops, and his fifth in volleyball.<\/p>\n

He also serves as an officer in the student organization<\/strong>, Young Men of Color, one of more than 70 on campus.<\/p>\n

What makes K great for Aaron? The open curriculum<\/strong> and the close-knit community<\/strong>. The former makes space for some delightful surprises (like Aaron\u2019s sophomore seminar on Chinese food and culture). The latter leads to relationships Aaron knows will long endure\u2014with teachers like Associate Professor of Biology Ann Fraser<\/strong>, he says, “one of the most influential persons in my life.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
