The Department of Economics and Business at Kalamazoo College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Economics, with preferred areas of research and teaching in macroeconomics and monetary economics or a closely related field. Specific teaching contributions will include principles of economics; intermediate macroeconomic theory; money & banking and financial services or other related topics, such as monetary economics, financial economics or investments; as well as contributions to departmental offerings in mathematical and quantitative methods. Moreover, the candidate should exhibit flexibility and capacity for shaping courses around her/his areas of specialization that would serve the College's Shared Passages Seminar program (i.e., first year, sophomore, or senior seminars).
The teaching load is 2-2-2, during fall, winter, and spring terms, for a total of six courses (with a possibility for a course repeat) per year. The person who holds this position will also be expected to advise students and supervise senior thesis projects. The successful candidate will demonstrate a high aptitude for and strong interest in undergraduate teaching, an understanding of and commitment to the liberal arts, and a demonstrable potential to establish and maintain an active research agenda in the candidate's area of specialization. Research collaborations with departmental colleagues and students are encouraged. A completed Ph.D. is required at the beginning of the appointment, September 2013. Salary is competitive and consistent with level of experience and economic faculty positions at peer liberal arts colleges.

The Economics and Business Department is one of the largest in the College and, in recent years, has graduated 50 or more majors each year. Furthermore, many graduates chose to pursue graduate study in law, public policy, business administrations, or economics. The campus is located midway between Chicago and Detroit in Kalamazoo, Michigan, a metropolitan community of 225,000 which supports four college and university campuses along with numerous civic arts and cultural associations. More specifically, the city of Kalamazoo offers the opportunity to interact professionally with economists at the W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research and at Western Michigan University.
