Unless we’re talking about the K-Plan and Kalamazoo native, and six-time All-American diver, Tim Ullrey.

“I chose K because I could participate in sports, but they wouldn’t consume my life,” says Tim. “And the study abroad program was something that always interested me. I had never lived outside of Kalamazoo, so living and studying in Madrid was incredibly eye-opening for me.”

Tim majored in physics, earned a minor in mathematics, and completed a Senior Individualized Project on optics. As a Hornet diver he earned all-conference honors in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association four times. He was a three-time conference champion, twice on the one-meter (1M) and once on the three-meter (3M). He finished third in the nation on the 3M in 2001 and fourth in the nation on the 1M in 2003. He was a key contributor to his teams’ national NCAA finishes of twelfth, ninth, sixth, and tenth.

After K, Tim earned an advanced degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Michigan. During his career he has worked on projects in numerous industries, including automotive, office furniture, consumer products, medical devices, and battery technology, among others. He has also become a successful project manager and holds Project Management Professional Certification.

For the past 11 years Tim has been an engineering consultant at DISHER, a Grand Rapids (Mich.)-based product development and engineering design company. He currently serves as team lead for the company’s Advanced Product Development group. “I help clients navigate the early stages of what they want to build next,” he says. Perhaps like a coach helping a diver take a risk and get over the fear of trying a new and daring dive. Tim certainly cites the influence of his Hornet diving coach, Ron Bramble. “I was lucky enough to have Ron as a coach for five years,” says Tim. “Four at K, as well as my senior year at Kalamazoo Central High School.”

Tim and his wife, Erika, and their two daughters, Molly and Katie, make their home in Wyoming, Michigan.

<details>
Tim’s Athletic Achievements at Kalamazoo College

All-MIAA Four Years (one of 33 K men swimmers/divers to achieve this)

Three-time MIAA champion (2 in 2001, 1 in 2002; Tony Holt won the other in 2002 and both in 2003)

One meter diving champion at MIAA Championships (528.80) (2002)

One meter diving champion at MIAA Championships (462.75) (2001)

Three meter diving champion at MIAA Championships (490.95) (2001)

Six-time All-American

Finished fourth in nation on 3M in 2001

Finished fourth in nation on 1M in 2003

HM AA Finishes (9th, 9th, 10th, 13th) can detail as needed

Member of MIAA championship teams all four years; helped team finish 12th, 9th, 6th, 10th at NCAA’s

</details>

 Back to Program

["post-38522","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
"1536x1536":false,"2048x2048":false
["GET
