Welcome to the Rape Awareness, Protection, and Education Website.

About 84% of all rapes are perpetrated by someone the survivor knows.

This website was initially created as a social action project for Karyn Boatwright"s Feminist Psychology of Women 2005 class. We wanted to leave a lasting resource on the Kalamazoo College community so survivors of sexual assault can always have an anonymous source of information and inspiration. Although the class primarily focuses on women's experiences, this website provides resources for BOTH sexes.

We recognize that Kalamazoo College is not immune to the occurrence of rape and sexual assault. We understand how difficult it can be to deal with the aftermath of rape and how hard it can sometimes be to find local resources to help you cope. This website provides resources and other useful information to all survivors and third parties of sexual assault.

Throughout this website we have chosen to use "rape" and "sexual assault" interchangeably.

Michigan Law uses "victim" language. We have attempted to use "survivor" language whenever possible because we want to emphasis the strength of the person who was assaulted rather than categorizing them as subordinate.

This website was created by Gili Averbuch, Theresa Horn, Angela Jubinville, and Laurel Stiedemann in 2005.
