Conduct Procedures: Academic Policy Violations
-
When a violation of an academic regulation occurs in a course,
an independent study project, or a SIP, the
instructor in charge will consult with the Dean of Students
and discuss the allegation with the student. If the academic
violation occurs under the auspices of an administrative
office (e.g. Registrar, Computing, Advising, etc.), the
administrator in charge will consult with the Dean of Students
and discuss the allegation with the student.
- In
the case of a first offense of Academic Regulations, faculty
or administrators make the determination of the appropriate
sanction. Within a course, the sanction is limited to the
scope of the course or project in question.
- Action
taken by the faculty or administrators must be reported
to the Dean of Students and will become a part of the conduct
record of the student.
- Students
may appeal the determination of the faculty or administrators
on the basis of severity of penalty, procedural error, or
new evidence. Appeals must be submitted in writing to the
Dean of Students within 72 hours. The appeal is determined
by the Dean of Students or his designee and that determination
is final.
- Faculty
or administrators may request to send the accusation and
evidence forward to the Dean of Students for a hearing before
a Student Conduct Panel. The Dean of Students shall determine
if a hearing before a Student Conduct Panel is necessary
or advisable.
