The
goal of the Student Activities Committee is to provide
quality entertainment and social opportunities that
enrich student life at Kalamazoo College. We believe
that extracurricular activities are central to the
development of Kalamazoo College students.
And it is our goal that you have fun!
|

The
Kalamazoo College Student Activities Committee (SAC)
is a group of student volunteers who are responsible
for planning, organizing, and implementing major campus
events for the student body. Faculty and staff members
are often invited to participate in these programs. |
| |
SAC
members meet weekly with the Student Activities Coordinator
to plan these events. Membership is open to all students.
We are always looking for new ideas and new members! |
MISSION STATEMENT OF THE STUDENT ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE |
| The
mission of the Kalamazoo College Student Activities
Committee (SAC) is to assist students in their ability
to balance academics with social activity. We will
do this by: |

|
Planning
positive alternative activities for student enjoyment.
Providing
a variety of activities, open to all Kalamazoo Ctudents,
that help bring a social commonality to the student
body.
|
|
Through
its committee members, SAC promotes fun, growth,
leadership, organizational skills, and team planning.
|
| SAC
coordinates various events throughout the year. Those
events include Blood Drives and Poster Sales. Below
is a description of the other events that SAC provides. |
| Groups of students and individuals
show off their exciting talents. Many groups lip sync
to their favorite songs . . . others sing, dance, or
play a musical instrument . . . some even yo-yo!! It's
always entertaining and any students are welcome to
participate. The contest is judged and prizes are awarded
accordingly! |
| Many alumni return to campus
to meet with old friends, see how things have changed
(or stayed the same), and enjoy the festivities. These
may include individual class reunion activities as well
as the annual alumni brunch. |
WEEKLONG ACTIVITIES FOR CURRENT "K" STUDENTS
|
| In
past years, homecoming week has involved a week of school
spirit and fall time activities. These may include:
class contests, powder puff, raising money for charity,
pumpkin painting dress up days, school spirit gets discounts
at the bookstore, tailgating, pep rallies and of course
. . . the football game!! |
DANCE FOR CURRENT "K" STUDENTS |
| This
is a great way to end Homecoming week. The Homecoming
dance is traditionally semi-formal. In the past it has
taken place at off campus locations such as the Radisson
but more recently has become an Old Welles event. There's
always fun music, good snacks, and great times! |
EXAM WEEK EXTRAVAGANZA (EWE) |
| Exam
week extravaganza, usually sometime the weekend before
exams, provides a stress free environment for a few
hours. Every EWE is different. Sometimes profs and administrators
serve ice cream and pizza or other yummy treats while
music is playing. It's a time to socialize and relax.
Student groups such as Monkapult or student bands may
provide entertainment. Comedians, musicians, and trivia
game shows have also been seen at EWE. It's a great
break you won't want to miss! |
MONTE CARLO
- Music, games, dancing, food, and prizes. |
| Try
your luck with Black Jack, Roulette, and other casino
games. Have fun with the profs and administrators as
they work the casino and you play the games. Then spend
your winning Monte Carlo bucks at the Millionaire Shop.
Choose from a variety of donations from the K-College
community and around town. |
SPECIAL EVENTS AND COMEDY CLUBS |
| The
special events are usually first or second weekend.
Special Events from the past have included Comedy Club.
At Comedy Club, a comedian or comedy group provides
entertainment in the environment of a comedy club staffed
by SAC. It is complete with mock cocktails and delicious
desserts . . . served to you by the SAC waiters and
waitresses (all free of course). A popular event sure
to provide a good laugh!Other entertainers: Gentlemen
Jugglers, many different music groups, ventriloquists,
Coffee House Nights, and hypnotists. |
| The
day is usually spent on the Quad filled with fun events
to enjoy the spring. In the past these events have included: |
|

|
Inflatables:
bungee run, moonwalk, laser tag, and the giant slide
Other events: tatoos, dunk tank, silly contests, tye-dying
A
picnic on the Quad
Snacks
And it's all free!
|
| Being
involved with SAC is a great way to get acquainted with
Kalamazoo College! You will get to work together with
a committee of K students to plan and implement every
aspect of well-attended, large scale events. You will
get to interact with agents and entertainers. You will
gain skills such as communicating effectively, working
together, planning and coordinating, paying close attention
to detail, creativity, leadership, and responsibility.
And it is fun, too! These skills will not only be useful
to you as a student, but they will also make you attractive
to potential employers. SAC meetings are held once a
week. The committee plans 3-4 events per quarter. |
