Student Life : Multiculturalism at Kalamazoo College
Addressing
issues of diversity with students and issues of institutional
racism within the College is a very important part of a liberal
arts education and the work of Kalamazoo College. Our
mission guides us to prepare our graduates to "better understand,
live successfully within, and provide enlightened leadership
to a richly diverse and increasingly complex world."
To
this end, a major role of Associate Dean of Students Karen Joshua-Wathel
is helping students overcome the problems that stem from difference,
helping students of color benefit from education in this environment,
and encouraging all of us to value and cherish the contributions
of people from different cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
She also works with faculty on including issues of diversity
within their courses and with administrators on developing programs
and policies that make this an inclusive environment that offers
the strongest education to all students.
