Hicks
Renovation
Note:
This is an iterative document, and will evolve as input is received
from the community for the design process. Send suggestions
to Vaughn Maatman, Chair
of the Hicks Renovation Committee.
Priorities
First
priority
What elements are important for Hicks? What are your top priorities
for spaces? What are the "must haves?"
-
A relaxed, welcoming Cyber café to be used for socializing
and quick computer usage/email check.
-
Move
the Health Center to Hicks. Combine the Health Center and
Counseling Center in one area using full spectrum lights in
a common reception area.
-
Area/resource
room for all or any student group (student organizations,
student commission, RA's, SAC, etc.) to use with designated
storage for organization's items/resources (poster paper,
pens, duty lists, etc.)
-
Large
area for performances, dances, etc., with movable walls for
division if needed.
-
Student
accomplishments to be displayed everywhere throughout the
building. Movable, continual. Possibly cases to display or
frames for photos, posters, paintings that can be changed
periodically.
-
Computer
lab (open 24 hours)
-
Atrium
and garden entrance to Hicks. Possible use of water element,
plants. Comfy chairs. Possibly move international flags to
the entrance area.
-
Multi-functional
spaces-perhaps with dividers - with food, AV/electronic resources
- for meetings, organizations, social activities.
Second
priority
If we had space, what more should we include?
-
Union
desk off to the side.
-
Centralized
bookstore (maybe double level) oozing with school spirit.
-
One
mail center for campus. Better access for mail services and
create a hive of activity.
-
Rooms
for games, separate room/areas for separate games. (pool table,
cyber games, air hockey,
ping pong, etc.)
Third
priority
What drops off your list, if we don't have space?
-
Balcony
deck from cafeteria.
-
Separate
convenience store for items needed (shampoo, detergent, etc.)
