Matt Boven
Women's Tennis Head Coach
Matt Boven was
named head coach of the Kalamazoo College women's tennis team
in August of 2006.
Boven led the Hornets
to an MIAA championship during his first season as head coach
in 2007. Kalamazoo finished 15-8 overall and 8-0 in the MIAA.
The Hornets were ranked regionally and advanced to the MIAA
Tournament championship match. Boven coached freshman Beau
Wangtrakuldee to MIAA co-MVP honors.
Boven has been
the varsity girl's tennis coach at Mattawan High School since
1999, earning MHSAA Division Two Regional Coach of the Year
honors in 2005. He also has served as the varsity boy's tennis
coach at Hackett Catholic Central High School since the winter
of 2004, earning MHSAA Division Four Regional Coach of the
Year honors in 2004 and 2005. Boven also had a stint as a
volunteer assistant men's tennis coach at Kalamazoo Valley
Community College during the 2002 season.
Boven graduated
from Western Michigan University in 2004, earning a bachelor's
degree in education while earning Michigan Secondary Provisional
Teaching Certification. Prior to enrolling at Western, Boven
earned a scholarship to play tennis at Kalamazoo Valley Community
College. A two-year letter winner for the Cougars, Boven earned
All-State Academic Honors in 1999-2000 and was a team captain
for the 2000 season.
