Sharri Brumfield was named head women’s basketball coach at Kalamazoo College on Aug. 27, 2008.
Brumfield came to Kalamazoo from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, N.Y., where she served as assistant women’s basketball coach and recruiting coordinator during the 2007-08 season.
Prior to arriving at RPI, Brumfield led the Thomas More College (Ky.) women’s basketball program for 17 seasons, becoming the winningest coach in school history with 216 victories. She led the team to four NCAA III Tournaments with two “Sweet 16” appearances. Her 1996-97 team was the first in school history to have a winning record and ended up setting a school record with 20 wins (20-7).
Brumfield led Thomas More to eight consecutive winning seasons (1996-2004) with a record of 127-71 over that span. The Saints were ranked as high as 15th nationally in 2004.
In addition to coaching, Brumfield served as Thomas More’s associate athletic director and senior woman administrator from 1990-2004. During her first three years at the college, Brumfield served as the women’s athletic director and intramural director.
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Brumfield graduated from Amelia High School. She was a standout athlete in basketball, softball and soccer at Wilmington College (Ohio), and graduated in 1984 with a dual major in physical education and health education. In 1997, she was inducted into the Wilmington College Hall of Fame and Amelia High School Hall of Fame.
Brumfield began her coaching career as the women's soccer head coach at Xavier University in 1985 and 1986, leading the Musketeers to a record of 20-6-3 over two seasons.
In addition to her head coaching duties at Kalamazoo, Brumfield serves as an instructor in the College's physical education department. |
