Women's Basketball holds off Olivet

KALAMAZOO - It wasn't easy, but they'll take it. The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team held on for a 74-68 win over Olivet College tonight in a game which saw 10 lead changes.

The Hornets trailed by as many as nine points (37-28) early in the second half, but mounted a comeback on a 62 percent shooting performance in the second half after shooting a dismal 26 percent (8-31) in the first 20 minutes.

Amanda Weishuhn had a career-high 23 points with a team-high seven rebounds for Kalamazoo. Jasmin MacAlpine and MaryJane Valade each scored 10 points. Lindsay Drury and Kelley Nyquist added nine and eight points, respectively. Vanessa Larkin contributed a career-high seven assists.

Kalamazoo shot 42 percent for the game while holding Olivet to 35 percent. The Hornets held a 44-37 rebounding edge while both teams committed 20 turnovers.

With Defiance's loss to Hope tonight, Kalamazoo moves into sole possession of third place in the MIAA with a 9-4 record (16-5 overall). Kalamazoo will host league-leading Hope College on Saturday at 3:00.
