Women's Basketball falls to Calvin in semi-final

MaryJane Valade scored a game-high 25 points en route to becoming the sixth player in school history to surpass 1,000 career points.
KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team suffered a 62-50 defeat at Calvin College tonight in a semifinal game in the MIAA Tournament.

Kalamazoo fell behind 11-3 to open the game, but responded by closing out the half with a 25-24 lead.

The Hornets fell behind early in the second half as well following an 11-0 run by Calvin. Kalamazoo cut the lead to four points several times and trailed 49-45 with 3:00 left in the game. The Knights pulled away and hit 8-of-9 free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

MaryJane Valade led Kalamazoo with 25 points and became the sixth player in school history to reach 1,000 points. A junior, Valade has 1,007 for her career. Valade also pulled down nine rebounds while Beth Reuter had a team-high 11 boards.

Kalamazoo shot a dismal 24.6 percent for the game while Calvin hit 39.0 percent of their shots. Kalamazoo held a 48-44 rebounding edge.

Kalamazoo finishes its record-setting season with a record of 18-8.
