Women's Basketball falls to Saint Mary's

KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team suffered just its fifth loss of the season tonight, falling 62-51 to Saint Mary's College. Saint Mary's led from the opening tip and never trailed. The Belles led 30-25 at halftime.

A sub par shooting performance by Kalamazoo combined with hot shooting by Saint Mary's led to the Hornets' downfall. Kalamazoo was limited to 32.8 percent shooting while Saint Mary's connected on 40.4 percent of their attempts. The Hornets made just 2-of-12 (16.7 percent) three-pointers, and made good on just over half of their free throws (11-21).

Saint Mary's held a 41-39 rebounding advantage. Kalamazoo committed 24 turnovers to Saint Mary's 23.

Amanda Weishuhn led Kalamazoo with 12 points. Lindsay Drury recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Kelley Nyquist added nine points and MaryJane Valade scored eight.

Kalamazoo returns to action on Saturday as they travel to Alma College to face the Scots at 3:00. The Hornets then return home for a four-game homestand to close out the regular season.
