Women's Basketball Wins Tournament

The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team defeated Indiana University-South Bend 66-58 today to capture the tournament championship in the Madonna University Holiday Hoops Classic.

The Hornets opened up with an 8-0 run and held on to the lead throughout much of the game, taking a 30-26 lead into halftime. The Titans gained the lead briefly early in the second half before Kalamazoo mounted a charge to gain a 14-point advantage with five minutes remaining in the game.

MaryJane Valade led all scorers with 18 points. Beth Reuter added 12 points and five rebounds. Kelley Nyquist scored 10 points and Lindsay Drury led the team with six rebounds.

The Hornets shot 46 percent from the field while holding the Titans to 36 percent shooting.

Kalamazoo is 8-2 on the season and hosts Carthage College Sunday at 3:00.
