KALAMAZOO - The women's basketball team let a first-half lead slip away in a 56-47 loss to Alma on Saturday.

Kalamazoo led by as many as seven points in the first half, 23-16 with 4:34 left, but Alma closed out the half on a 6-0 run to trail 23-22 at halftime. The teams traded leads early in the second half before Kalamazoo expanded its lead back to six (33-27) with 15:51 left in the game. Alma outscored Kalamazoo 26-8 over the next 12 minutes and led 53-41 with 3:04 left in the game. Kalamazoo would get no closer than seven points (54-47) with 31 seconds left in the game.

Kalamazoo shot 31.8 percent in the first half while holding Alma to 27.3 percent and 0-8 from three-point range. Alma turned the tide by shooting 46.4 percent in the second half and limiting Kalamazoo to just 25.9 percent. Alma finished the game at 36.1 percent and 2-of-14 on three-pointers. Kalamazoo shot 28.6 percent overall and made 4-of-16 three-pointers.

Alma outrebounded Kalamazoo 44-35, including 15-9 on the offensive end. Kalamazoo turned the ball over 21 times to Alma's 16.

Andrea Bedway led Kalamazoo with a career-high 18 points. Kelseah Howell added nine points with six rebounds and four steals.

Megan Hoblet led Alma with 25 points and 13 rebounds.

Kalamazoo plays the second of a three-game homestand against Albion on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
