KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team
improved to 1-1 in the MIAA with an 80-77 win over Adrian.
Adrian led 39-36 at halftime.
The game featured a combined 46 fouls (27 Adrian, 19 Kalamazoo)
and 62 free throws (24 Adrian, 38 Kalamazoo). Kalamazoo converted
on 27-of-38 free throws while Adrian sank 17-of-24. The Bulldogs
shot 38.9 percent from the field while Kalamazoo shot 44.9
percent overall and 56.3 percent from behind the arc (9-16).
Freshman Briana Hendrix led Kalamazoo with 19 points in her
first career start. She was 5-for-9 overall with three three-pointers
and six free throws. Therese Demres was 7-of-8 at the line
and finished with 15 points. Nyemade Cooper had a double-double
with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Sara Lappan sank four three-pointers
and finished with 13 points. Kelsea Howell rounded out the
five starters in double figures with 12 points and six assists.
Anita Stamps led Adrian with 23 points on 8-of-20 shooting.
Liz Hafeli scored 14 and Jenny Carlson finished with 11 points
for the Bulldogs (3-3, 1-2).
Kalamazoo returns to action Wednesday at home against Olivet
at 7:30 p.m.
