KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team
won its home-opener 65-56 over Earlham College on Tuesday.
Kalamazoo led 30-23 at halftime, and held a 35-33 advantage
in the second half.
Kalamazoo shot just 34.4 percent from the field, but made
20-of-27 free throws. The Hornets made just 1-of-13 from three-point
range. Earlham shot 38.2 percent from the field and made just
1-of-17 three-pointers. Earlham was 3-of-8 at the line.
Earlham held a 50-43 rebounding advantage, but turned the
ball over 28 times. Kalamazoo had 22 turnovers.
Kelsea Howell and Allie Oosta led Kalamazoo with 12 points
apiece. Howell had seven rebounds, three steals and two blocked
shots. Sara Lappan scored 11 points, including 5-of-7 shooting
at the line. Nyemade Cooper scored eight points with eight
rebounds, and Briana Hendrix added eight points off the bench.
Tasha Merrill led Earlham (0-3) with 17 points off the bench.
Whitney McBurrows scored 15 points with six rebounds. Casie
Byrd added 10 points.
Kalamazoo returns to action on Saturday at Franklin College
(Ind.).
