Kalamazoo College

HOLLAND - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team lost to Hope College 82-71 in the championship game of the MIAA Tournament on Saturday. Hope led 44-31 at halftime and extended that lead to 24 points (75-51) with 6:11 left in the game.

Alissa Johnston led Kalamazoo with 24 points on 7-of-12 shooting and 9-of-9 at the free throw line. Niki Grubb finished with 13 points and seven rebounds. Amanda Weishuhn scored 11 points with five rebounds. Vanessa Larkin recorded four assists, ending the season and tying a school record with 111 assists in a season.

Amy Brower came off the bench to lead Hope with 20 points and six rebounds. Becky Sutton and Amanda Kerkstra each scored 16 points. Amy Baltmanis scored 13 and Laura Poppema added 12 points and seven rebounds.

Hope shot 57.9 percent while holding Kalamazoo to 41.5 percent. The Hornets committed 20 turnovers while Hope had 16. Hope held a 30-28 rebounding edge.

Kalamazoo finishes the season with a record of 21-7, setting a school record for most wins in a season.
