MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketbal team defeated Kendall College (IL) 79-61 in the opening round of the Rhodes College Tournament. The Hornets will face Rhodes College in the championship game at 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Rhodes defeated Huntingdon (AL) 81-39.
Niki Grubb led Kalamazoo with 23 points in the win over Kendall. Vanessa Larkin scored 20 points and Amanda Weishuhn added 16 points. Alissa Johnston scored 12 points with a team-high eight rebounds.
Kalamazoo shot 37.5 percent and Kendall shot 33.9 percent. Rebounding was nearly equal with Kalamazoo holding a 40-39 edge. Kendall had 30 turnovers while Kalamazoo committed 25 turnovers.
