KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team defeated nationally-ranked Wisconsin-Oshkosh 50-49 in the championship game of the Hornet Tip-off Tournament on Saturday. Niki Grubb was named Tournament MVP and Alissa Johnston was selected to the All-Tournament Team.

Kalamazoo trailed 16-3 at the 12:06 mark in the first half. The Hornets then went on a 27-5 run to close out the half with a 27-21 lead. The second half went back and forth before Niki Grubb hit a basket in the paint to put the Hornets up by one with 16 seconds left in the game. Wisconsin-Oshkosh's first shot attempt under five seconds was blocked and the second shot missed as time expired.

Niki Grubb led Kalamazoo with 15 points and 13 rebounds. She was 5-of-7 from the field and 4-of-4 at the free throw line. Amanda Weishuhn added 16 points and three steals. Alissa Johnston finished with 10 points and six rebounds.

Kristin Steckmesser led Wisconsin-Oshkosh with 21 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. Melissa Schweitzer added 10 points.

Kalamazoo shot 44.4 percent from the field and hit 17-of-18 free throws (94.4 percent). Wisconsin-Oshkosh shot 28.8 percent from the field and 72.2 percent (13-18) at the line.

Kalamazoo, now 2-0 on the season, travels to the University of Chicago on Tuesday, Nov. 20.
