Women's Basketball Defeats Albion

KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team snapped Albion College's three-game winning streak with a 59-49 victory tonight at Anderson Athletic Center. The game featured seven lead changes and nine ties. The game was tied 25-25 at halftime.

Amanda Weishuhn recorded her third career double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds for Kalamazoo. MaryJane Valade added 14 points and five rebounds. Alissa Johnston finished with 11 points. Vanessa Larkin had five assists, two blocks, and three steals.

Amanda Yeager led Albion with 12 points. Christine Philips had 10 points and eight rebounds. Erin Hearn added 10 points.

Kalamazoo shot 41.7 percent from the field while holding Albion to just 32.7 percent. The Hornets were almost perfect at the free throw line, sinking 18-of-19 attempts (94.7%), while Albion hit just 13-of-23 (56.5%) free throws.

Albion held a 38-30 rebounding advantage, despite turning the ball over 24 times to Kalamazoo's 16.

Kalamazoo improves to 14-7 overall and stays in the hunt for third place in the MIAA with a 6-5 mark. Albion falls to 4-17 on the season, 3-8 in the MIAA.
