Women's Basketball Secures Home Tourney Game

KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team secured a home game for at least the first round of the MIAA Tournament with an 86-57 win over Olivet College tonight. The Hornets' 86 points marks a season-high for the team, while the 29-point margin of victory matches a season-best.

Lindsay Drury led Kalamazoo with 20 points. She set an MIAA record by hitting 12-of-12 free throws. The senior forward also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds, and now needs just 11 more to reach the 500 mark for her career.

The Hornets also got a career-high from Stephanie Getz with 15 points off the bench in just over 14 minutes of play. The sophomore guard was 4-of-7 from 3-point range while pulling down four rebounds. MaryJane Valade added 14 points and five rebounds. Vanessa Larkin scored 12 points and had a game-high nine assists. Amanda Weishuhn and Sara Kellogg each scored eight points.

Louisa Grill led Olivet with 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting with six rebounds. Christine May added 12 points and seven rebounds.

The Hornets shot 45.6 percent while holding Olivet to 36.2 percent. Olivet was 14-of-16 at the line. Kalamazoo was 18-of-23. Olivet held a 42-36 rebounding advantage.

Olivet committed 28 turnovers, including five in the first four minutes of the game when the Comets did not even attempt a shot. Kalamazoo had just 12 turnovers.

Kalamazoo improves to 16-7 overall and 8-5 in the MIAA. The Hornets also take over sole possession of third place in the league. Olivet falls to 13-11 overall and 5-8 in the league.
