
Women's Basketball Defeats Chicago
It took over five minutes before Kalamazoo's Alissa Johnston hit a three-pointer for the first basket of the game. The Hornets never looked back and carried a 33-19 lead into halftime. Chicago made a run in the second half but never got within 10 points of the undefeated Hornets. MaryJane Valade led Kalamazoo with 21 points and eight rebounds off the bench. Alissa Johnston added 11 points. Vanessa Larkin chipped in 10 points with seven assists. Paula Lepka led Chicago with 13 points. Katie Miller had nine rebounds for the Maroons. Kalamazoo shot 35.2 percent while holding Chicago to 30.6 percent. Kalamazoo converted on 21-of-27 free throws (77.8 percent). The Hornet defense forced Chicago into 36 turnovers and no three-pointers. Kalamazoo improves to 3-0 on the season. Their next game is Friday, Dec. 8 against Ohio Wesleyan University at the DePauw University Tournament in Greencastle, Ind. Chicago falls to 3-1 with the loss. |
