MaryJane Valade was named MIAA
(Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association) Player of the Week for
her efforts in two league games last week.
The senior forward scored 39 points in the two games to become the Hornets'
fourth all-time leading scorer (1,179 points). She scored 23 points in
a 69-67 loss at Hope College and 16 points in a 65-42 win at home over
Calvin College. In the games she made 15-of-26 shots and was 9-of-13 on
free throws with 13 rebounds and four steals.
Valade needs just 19 points to take over the number three position on the
College’s all-time scoring list. She is just 15 rebounds away from becoming
only the third player in school history to score 1,000 points with 500
rebounds.
Valade is averaging 14.3 points and 6.6 rebounds per game this season.
She is shooting a team-best 52.2 percent (59-113) from the field.
Kalamazoo is 9-3 overall and 1-1 in the MIAA. The Hornets return to action
on Wednesday when they host Alma College at 7:30 p.m.
