Kalamazoo dropped their opening two games of the season as host of the annual Hornet Invitational.

John Carroll defeated Kalamazoo 16-14, 16-14, 16-14 in game one. Jodi Pung led the Hornets with 11 kills. Emily Trahan had 44 assists. Devin Williams had 14 digs.

Kalamazoo's offense was held in check in game two as the Hornets fell to Millikin 15-9, 15-9, 15-7. Devin Williams led Kalamazoo with 12 kills. Jodi Pung had 10 digs. Emily Trahan had 24 assists.

Kalamazoo (0-2) returns to action on Saturday when they face Manchester (0-2) at 11:30 a.m. That match is followed by matches at 1:30 and 3:30 that are determined by each team's place in their respective pool.
