April 4, 2001 vs. Calvin College (MIAA Doubleheader)

Kalamazoo split a doubleheader with Calvin in the Hornets' MIAA opener.

Kalamazoo won the first game, 2-1. Emery Engers (4-3) went the distance on the mound and gave up only one hit. She struck out two and walked none. Kalamazoo scored both of its runs in the fourth inning. Teri Fox had a double and was driven home on a double by Dawn Todd. Todd scored the eventual game-winning run on an error by the second baseman.

Calvin won the second game, 5-4. The Hornets trailed 2-1 in the sixth inning before Calvin took advantage of two Kalamazoo errors to score three runs to take a 5-1 lead. Kalamazoo scored three runs in the seventh, but could not get the tying run home. Dawn Todd was 2-for-2 with an RBI. Alicia Dicks was 2-for-4 with a stolen base.

The Hornets are now 1-1 in the MIAA (6-11-1 overall). Kalamazoo returns to action on Saturday at Olivet College at 1 p.m.
