Mary's College (MIAA Doubleheader)
KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College softball team split a doubleheader with Saint Mary's College on Wednesday. The Hornets have completed their portion of the league season and are now in sole possession of fourth place in the MIAA. However, Adrian and Olivet play each other on Saturday (4/28) and the outcome of those two games could produce a tie for fourth place, or Adrian could take sole possession of fourth with two wins. The top four teams advance to the MIAA tournament held May 4-5.
In game one today, Emery Engers (10-8) pitched a one-hitter in the Hornets' 1-0 victory. The first batter of the game had Saint Mary's only hit. Engers struck out three and walked two. Erin Rumery had a double and the only RBI, driving in Tonia Yoder in the third inning. Yoder also had a double in the game. Engers was 3-for-3 at the plate.
The Hornets lost the second game, 2-1. Elli Toskey (2-13) pitched five innings and took the loss. She allowed six hits while striking out two and walking none. Six Kalamazoo players had singles. Teri Fox had the Hornets only RBI.
Kalamazoo is now 12-22-1 overall and 5-9 in the MIAA. Saint Mary's is 12-17 overall and 4-10 in the MIAA.
