KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College softball
team swept a non-conference doubleheader with Manchester (Ind.) College
this afternoon.
Dawn Todd's homerun to left center with one out in the fourth inning proved
to be the game-winner. Todd was 2-for-3 in the game. Alicia Dicks and Jaime
Pulling each added singles for Kalamazoo. Emery Engers (8-7) earned the
shutout, scattering seven hits and one walk with five strikeouts.
Manchester had seven hits in the game. Alicia Ladewski and Brooke Phelps
each had two hits. Nicki Zechar (1-6) took the loss, allowing five hits,
three walks and one strikeout.
Each team left nine runners on base.
It took an extra frame for Kalamazoo to win the second game. After falling
behind 2-0 in the first inning, Kalamazoo tied the game with a run in the
second and fifth inning. Erin Rumery singled home Alicia Dicks in the bottom
of the eighth for the game-winner.
Rumery was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Meredith Dodson was 2-for-3 with an RBI
and run scored. Teri Fox and Shauna Sage each had hits for Kalamazoo. Emery
Engers (9-7) earned the win. She came on in relief of Elli Toskey in the
sixth inning. Alicia Dicks had a stolen base and set the school record
for most stolen bases in a season with 12.
Brooke Phelps and Tiffany Ozbun each had three hits for Manchester. Nicolette
Gasior (7-7) entered the game in the seventh inning and took the loss.
Kalamazoo is now 11-19-1 overall. Manchester is 9-19. The Hornets return
to action on Saturday when they host Saint Mary's College in an MIAA doubleheader
beginning at 1 p.m.
