Softball loses doubleheader to Hope
KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College softball team lost both games of a doubleheader
to Hope College today, 2-1 and 9-1.
Kalamazoo led 1-0 going in to the top of the seventh inning in game
one. With two outs, two strikes, and two runners on, the Hope batter reached
safely on an infield error as both runners crossed the plate to give the
Flying Dutch the 2-1 lead. The Hornets failed to respond in the bottom
of the seventh as the Hope pitcher struck out the side.
Kalamazoo managed just three hits in the game. Erin Rumery was 2-for-3.
Teri Fox had a single. Emery Engers returned to the mound for the first
time since returning from the Florida trip after recovering from a leg
injury. Engers scattered six hits and allowed no earned runs. She walked
four and struck out three.
The Hornet bats continued to struggle in the second game. Dawn Todd, Emery
Engers, and Stephanie Getz had Kalamazoo's only hits. A costly error in
the second inning allowed Hope to score four unearned runs.
The Hornets return to action on Saturday when they travel to Albion College
for a doubleheader beginning at 1:30 p.m.
