Softball splits two games at the wire

ORLANDO - The Kalamazoo College women's softball team split a pair of games that were each were won in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Game one saw the Hornets take a 9-7 lead going into the bottom of the sixth. Otterbein scored four times but Kalamazoo would answer with two in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 11-11. Otterbein scored on a single four batters later to end the game. Kalamazoo broke the record they set three days ago by posting 18 hits in the game. Despite all the hits, nine runners were left on base. Megan Deats was 4-for-4 with two RBI's. Teri Fox and Emery Engers had three hits each while Alicia Dicks and Nisse Olsen each had two hits.

Kalamazoo entered the bottom half of the seventh inning in game two tied with Allegheny 4-4. Emery Engers drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a Shauna Sage sacrifice bunt. Dawn Todd's single moved Engers to third. A fly out to center by Megan Deats was not deep enough to risk the play at the plate. Meredith Dodson proceeded to hit a single down the left-field line to drive home the game-winning run. Alicia Dicks, Sage, and Todd each had two hits in the game. Engers earned the win (3-1) with one walk and four strikeouts.
