Men's Tennis to host Midwest Regional

Kalamazoo College is the site of the 2001 NCAA Midwest Regional.
KALAMAZOO - Kalamazoo College's Stowe Stadium will be the site for a portion of the 2001 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Midwest Regional this Saturday and Sunday, May 12 and 13. Match times are set for 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, with the championship match held Sunday at noon. The winner advances to the national championships at DePauw University (Ind.), May 18-20.

The teams playing in Kalamazoo include: Kalamazoo College (MI); Denison University (Ohio); DePauw University (Ind.); and Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Denison faces DePauw at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Kalamazoo meets Wisconsin-Oshkosh at 1 p.m. Winners square off at noon on Sunday.

Kalamazoo enters with an overall record of 14-9, and recently captured its 63rd consecutive Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) championship. Kalamazoo defeated Wisconsin-Oshkosh 7-0 earlier this season. Kalamazoo also defeated Denison 6-1 in the GLCA (Great Lakes Colleges Association) tournament championship this season. The Hornets did not face DePauw, however Denison defeated DePauw 4-3 in the GLCA tournament. DePauw beat Kalamazoo 4-3 in the Midwest Regional championship last season.

Wisconsin-Oshkosh enters with an overall record of 16-6. Denison is 15-5 on the season. DePauw enteres with a record of 14-7.

Another midwest regional is being held at Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.). That tournament inclues: Gustavus Adolphus College; Central College (Iowa); Coe College (Iowa); and Washington University (Mo.).
