of four seniors last season with the addition of two new freshmen.
Riley says he expects excellence from all the players, and
is confident that the hard work of both new and returning
members will result in a successful season.
Last season, the team finished with an impressive overall record of 21-6, going undefeated within the MIAA conference and finishing 17th in the NCAA Division III rankings. The doubles team of Cyrus Jadun and Pat Boyd received All-American honors after advancing to the quarterfinals at the 2010 NCAA Division III championships. In October, the team competed at the 2010 USTA-ITA Central Regional Championships, held at Kalamazoo College. In the singles competition, Michael Korn advanced to the quarterfinals and Nate Eddy to the third round of the consolation bracket.
Riley emphasized the importance of working on fundamentals during the offseason. The team has been focusing on running and achieving a strong fitness level.
The team enters the season ranked 30th in NCAA Division III, facing a tough schedule with no easy matches. One of the season’s objectives is to consistently compete at the top level in order to be strongest by the end of the season. Coach Riley’s philosophy is to play the best teams in order to challenge the team and find areas to improve.
The team’s goals include earning their 73rd consecutive MIAA title and finishing first in the MIAA championships, held April 29 and 30th at Albion College. The team hopes to remain relevant at the national level, competing in the NCAA division III championships and increasing their NCAA standing.
This season’s captains are Juniors Nate Eddy and Mark Denenfeld. Other players to watch include seniors Tom Cafmeyer and Clay Bartelt and junior Alex Dombos.
The season opens February 13th at Kenyon College.
