October 29, 2001 - Kalamazoo College vs. Calvin College (MIAA Contest)

KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College men's soccer team clinched the MIAA championship with a 2-0 win over Calvin College at the Annen Soccer Complex on Monday. The Hornets also won the MIAA championship in 2000. As MIAA champions, Kalamazoo will earn an automatic berth into the NCAA III Championships.

Ross Bower scored the first goal and game-winner in the first 12 seconds of the contest. Steve Dendler had the assist. The NCAA III record for the fastest goal at the start of a game is four seconds.

Steve Dendler added the second goal with seven minutes left to play. Nick Carlin-Voigt earned the shutout with two saves.

Kalamazoo will finish the regular season with two home matches. The Hornets host Olivet College on Wednesday at 3 p.m. and Alma on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

This is the 11th MIAA championship for head coach Hardy Fuchs.
