Kalamazoo College Men's Soccer Prepares for NCAA Tournament
The
Kalamazoo College men's soccer team will travel to Wilmington College in
Wilmington, Ohio on Wednesday, Nov. 8 for a first round NCAA Tournament
match that will begin at 7:30 p.m. Wilmington is 16-2-3 on the season.
The winner of Wednesday's match will move on to face John Carroll University on Saturday, Nov. 11 at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio. In the other Great Lakes Region match Wednesday, Webster (Mo.) plays at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind. The winner of that match will face Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday at Ohio Wesleyan. The regional championship match will be played Sunday, Nov. 12 at Ohio Wesleyan.
The regional champions compete in the quarterfinals on Nov. 19. Semifinals take place on Nov. 24 or 25 and the final match is held Nov. 25 or 26. All games will be played-on-campus of participating institutions.
Kalamazoo advanced to the NCAA Tournament after clinching the MIAA championship with an 11-0-1 league record. The Hornets are 14-2-1 overall. The two losses were to regional foes DePauw University and Ohio Wesleyan, while the tie came at the hands of last year's MIAA representative Alma College. Kalamazoo was undefeated during the last fourteen games of the season with a record of 13-0-1 during that span. The Hornets' last loss was Sept. 8 at Ohio Wesleyan.
This is the Hornets' first NCAA appearance since 1990 when Kalamazoo lost to Ohio Wesleyan 1-0 in the first round. Head Coach Hardy Fuchs also led teams to the NCAA tournament in 1985, 1986, and 1988. In 1988 Kalamazoo defeated Ohio Wesleyan 3-2 but fell to Wheaton 1-0 in the second round.
