Seven Hornets Lead All-MIAA Men's Soccer Team
Seven Kalamazoo College men’s soccer players were selected to either the first or second All-MIAA teams following the Hornets’ MIAA championship season.
Ross Bower, David Dwaihy, Pat Tetreault, John Evans, and Jon Hughes were among those selected to the first team. Bower, a sophomore forward from Ann Arbor (Pioneer HS), ranked fourth in the MIAA in goals (9), third in assists (6), and third in total points (24). He was also a first-team selection in 1999. Dwaihy, a junior from Grosse Pte. Woods (Grosse Pte. North), and Pat Tetreault, a junior from Jackson (Jackson HS), are both midfielders. Dwaihy, who is making his second appearance on the first team, led the Hornets’ with nine assists in all games. Tetreault had 10 total points (3 goals, 4 assists) on the season. John Evans, junior from Eastport (Petoskey HS), and Jon Hughes, sophomore from Paw Paw (Paw Paw HS), are both defenders who helped the Hornets allow a league-fewest seven goals in all MIAA games.
Aaron Thornburg and Andrew Upward were both selected to the second team. Thornburg, a junior forward from Okemos (Okemos HS), led the league in total points with 28. He ranked second in the league in goals (11) and third in assists (6). Upward, a sophomore midfielder from Birmingham (Detroit Country Day), ranked sixth in the league with four assists.
Kalamazoo players receiving honorable mention honors included Andrew Kemple (Fr., Midfielder, Kalamazoo/Kalamazoo Central) and Brett Stinar (Fr., Fullback, Canton/Plymouth-Salem).
Kalamazoo is 14-2-1 on the season and won the MIAA championship with
a record of 11-0-1. The Hornets are playing at Wilmington College (Ohio)
tonight in a NCAA Tournament first-round match.
