Men's Soccer players earn All-MIAA honors
Kalamazoo College men's soccer players Dane Carey and Ben Darling received All-MIAA honors on Wednesday, Nov. 11. Carey, a junior from Roscommon (Roscommon HS), earned All-MIAA First Team honors. Carey led the MIAA in goals (8), points (19) and game-winning goals (4). He had three assists in league games and was named MIAA Offensive Player of the Week for week eight. Darling, a junior from Suttons Bay (Suttons Bay HS), earned All-MIAA Second Team honors. As one of the league's top defensive players, Darling anchored a defense that allowed 12 goals in 14 league contests. Darling also had an assist and scored one goal this season. In addition to his all-league honors, Darling was named MIAA Defensive Player of the Week for week seven.

Men's Soccer suffers 1-0 loss to Trine
The men's soccer team lost 1-0 to Trine on Saturday, Nov. 7 in the final game of the 2009 season. Trine scored nine minutes into the contest. Kalamazoo had a 11-5 advantage in shots, but each team had just two shots on goal. Kalamazoo finishes the 2009 season with an overall record of 7-9-2 and 7-6-1 in the MIAA. Box Score

Men's Soccer wins 2-1 at Albion
The men's soccer team won 2-1 at Albion on Wednesday, Nov. 4. Dagan Hammar scored in the sixth minute (Phil Jackson assist). Ben Darling made it 2-0 with a goal in the 29th minute (Dane Carey assist). Albion scored its only goal in the 71st minute. Ben Schroeder made one save in goal for the Hornets. Dane Macdonell made two saves. With the win, Kalamazoo improved to 7-8-2 overall and 7-5-1 in the MIAA. The Hornets have won four of their last five games and have moved into third place in the MIAA. Kalamazoo wraps up the regular season at home on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. against Trine. Box Score

Men's Soccer shuts out nationally-ranked Calvin
The men's soccer team held nationally-ranked Calvin College scoreless with a 3-0 win on Saturday, Oct. 31. Martin Blanc opened the scoring on a free kick just outside the box in the 19th minute. Jared Georgakopoulos added a goal off a header in the 23rd minute (Thomas Lorentzen assist). Dane Carey scored in the 49th minute (Georgakopoulos assist). Calvin outshot Kalamazoo 14-6, but only one of Calvin's shots was on goal. Of Kalamazoo's six shots, four were on goal and three resulted in goals. Ben Schroeder earned ths shutout in goal for the Hornets. Kalamazoo returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at Albion. That match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Box Score

Men's Soccer falls 2-1 in overtime at Olivet
The men's soccer team lost 2-1 in overtime at Olivet on Tuesday, Oct. 27. After a scoreless first half, Kalamazoo took a 1-0 lead when Dane Carey scored on a penalty kick four minutes into the second half. Olivet tied the score on a penalty kick with just 2:50 remaining in regulation. The Comets scored the game-winner 4:27 into overtime. Olivet held a 19-10 advantage in shots, including 11-3 on goal. Ben Schroeder made nine saves in goal for the Hornets. Kalamazoo returns to action on Saturday against Calvin at 2:30 p.m. Box Score

Dane Carey named MIAA Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Dane Carey, a junior from Roscommon (Roscommon HS), was selected as the MIAA Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week. Carey had two goals and an assist in leading the Hornets to a pair of MIAA wins. He had a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win over Alma, then headed in the winning goal with 37 seconds remaining in the second overtime as Kalamazoo edged Adrian, 2-1. Carey is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in his career.

Dane Carey scores Men's Soccer game-winner in overtime
Dane Carey scored with just 37 seconds left in the second overtime to lift Kalamazoo to a 2-1 win at Adrian on Saturday, Oct. 24. Martin Blanc had the assist. Adrian scored the game's first goal in the 15th minute and held the lead until Jared Georgakopoulos tied the game with just seven minutes left in regulation. The teams played 19 minutes of scoreless overtime before Carey's header went into the goal for the win. Each team had 15 shots and eight shots on goal. Ben Schroeder made seven saves in goal for the Hornets. Kalamazoo returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at Olivet. Box Score

Men's Soccer shuts out Alma, 3-0
The men's soccer team scored two goals in the first 13 minutes of a 3-0 win over Alma on Wednesday, Oct. 21. Dane Carey had a goal and two assists. Dagan Hammar had a goal and an assist. Martin Blanc also had a goal. Ben Schroeder made three saves in goal. The Hornets travel to Adrian on Saturday, Oct. 24 with a 2:30 p.m. start. Box Score

Ben Darling named MIAA Defensive Player of the Week
Kalamazoo College's Ben Darling, a junior from Suttons Bay (Suttons Bay HS), was selected as the MIAA Defensive Player of the Week. Darling anchored the Hornets’ defense as they posted consecutive shutouts, edging Trine 1-0 and playing to a double-overtime scoreless tie with Hope. Darling’s strong play has helped the Hornets limit their opposition to an average of less than a goal per game in MIAA play. He is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in his career.

Men's Soccer plays Hope to 0-0 tie
The men's soccer team played Hope to a 0-0 tie on Hope's stadium dedication day, Saturday, Oct. 17. Neither team was able to score through 90 minutes of regulation and 20 minutes of overtime. Kalamazoo had a 19-14 advantage in shots, including 6-5 on goal. Ben Schroeder made five saves in goal for the Hornets. Kalamazoo is now 3-4-1 in the MIAA while Hope slips out of a first place tie at 5-1-2. Box Score

Men's Soccer wins 1-0 at Trine
The men's soccer team won 1-0 at Trine on Tuesday, Oct. 13. Dane Carey scored the game-winning goal in the 65th minute. Kalamazoo had 18 shots to Trine's 11, including 10-6 on goal. Ben Schroeder earned the shutout with six saves in goal. Kalamazoo returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 17 with a 7 p.m. match at Hope. Box Score

Men's Soccer suffers 2-0 loss to Albion
The men's soccer team lost 2-0 to Albion on Saturday, Oct. 10. The game was played at Battle Creek Lakeview High School due to unplayable field conditions in Kalamazoo. Albion took a 1-0 lead with a goal in the seventh minute. The Britons scored the second goal in the 84th minute. Kalamazoo outshot Albion 11-10, but the Britons had six shots goal to the Hornets' two. Ben Schroeder made four saves in goal for Kalamazoo. The Hornets return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at Trine. Saturday's Men's Soccer match with Albion moved to Battle Creek
The men's soccer match between Kalamazoo and Albion scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 10 has been moved to Battle Creek Lakeview High School due to unplayable field conditions in Kalamazoo. The match is still scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. Battle Creek Lakeview High School is located at 15060 Helmer Road South, Battle Creek, MI, 49015. Men's Soccer falls 1-0 to #14 Calvin
The men's soccer team lost 1-0 at 14th-ranked Calvin on Wednesday, Oct. 7. Calvin scored the game's only goal on a penalty kick just 20 seconds before halftime. Calvin outshot Kalamazoo 20-3, including 8-3 on goal. Ben Schroeder made seven saves in goal. Kalamazoo is scheduled to host Albion on Saturday at 2:30 pm. Box Score

Men's soccer shuts out Olivet at home
The men's soccer team blanked Olivet 2-0 at home on Saturday, Oct. 3. Dane Carey scored both goals for Kalamazoo, one in the ninth minute and the second in the 57th minute. Phil Turner had the assist on the first goal while Ben Darling assisted on the second goal. Kalamazoo outshot Olivet 22-4, including 14-3 on goal. Ben Schroeder made three saves in goal for the shutout. Kalamazoo returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at Calvin. Box Score

Men's Soccer falls 1-0 in overtime
The men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 overtime loss to Adrian on Tuesday, Sept. 29. Adrian scored with just over three minutes remaining in the second overtime period. The Bulldogs had 10 shots to Kalamazoo's nine, including 4-1 on goal. Kalamazoo returns to action on Saturday with a 2:30 home game against Olivet. Box Score

Men's Soccer wins 3-2 at Alma
The men's soccer team won 3-2 in league play at Alma on Saturday, Sept. 26. Alma took an early lead, but Kalamazoo scored two goals in two minutes near the end of the half. Kalamazoo scored its third goal, and ultimate game-winner, just two minutes into the second half. Phil Jackson, Dane Carey and Martin Blanc each scored for Kalamazoo. The Hornets host Adrian on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 4 p.m. Box Score

Men's Soccer drops MIAA opener to Hope
The men's soccer team lost its MIAA opener 1-0 to Hope on Wednesday, Sept. 23. Hope scored just over two minutes into the contest. The Flying Dutchmen had 22 shots to Kalamazoo's eight, including 10-2 on goal. Ben Schroeder made nine saves in goal for the Hornets. Kalamazoo returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 26 at Alma. Men's Soccer plays John Carroll to 0-0 tie
The men's soccer team battled John Carroll University to a 0-0 tie on Saturday, Sept. 19. Kalamazoo had 24 shots to John Carroll's six, including 7-2 on goal. The game had 51 total fouls called and nine cards issued. Ben Schroeder made two saves in goal for the Hornets. Kalamazoo plays it home opener on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 4 p.m. against Hope. Men's Soccer falls at Ohio Northern
The men's soccer team suffered a 7-0 loss at Ohio Northern University on Friday, Sept. 18. Kalamazoo trailed 2-0 at halftime, but the host Polar Bears scored five goals in the second half. Ohio Northern had 25 shots to Kalamazoo's 14, including 11-7 on goal. Kalamazoo faces John Carroll on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Box Score

Men's Soccer suffers 1-0 loss to Goshen
The men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to Goshen (Ind.) College on Saturday, Sept. 5 in Holland, Mich. Goshen scored the only goal just 3:20 into the game. Kalamazoo outshot Goshen 8-7 (5-4 on goal) for the game. Each team had eight fouls, and Kalamazoo had five corner kicks to Goshen's three. The Hornets next contest is Friday, Sept. 18 at Ohio Northern. Box Score

Men's Soccer falls 1-0 to Wilmington in season opener
The men's soccer team lost its 2009 season opener 1-0 to Wilmington College on Friday, September 4 at the Hope College Tournament in Holland, Mich. Wilmington scored the game's only goal in the 18th minute of the first half. Each team had just five shots in the game. Kalamazoo returns to action on Saturday with a 12 p.m. match against Goshen College. Box Score

2009 Season Preview
The men’s soccer team is looking for new players to fill roles for the 2009 season. Three of the top four point producers as well as the team’s goalkeeper have graduated since last season.

Dane Carey is the top returning point producer with two goals and three assists last season. Philip Turner is the top returning scorer with three goals last year.

The battle for goalkeeper will take place during preseason as Ben Schroeder returns to the team for his senior season after studying abroad last fall. He is joined in camp by two freshmen goalkeepers.

The season opens Sept. 4-5 in Holland, Mich. at the Hope College Tournament. MIAA play begins Sept. 23 in Kalamazoo against Hope.

Alumni Match Against WMU Announced
The Western Michigan University alumni will host the Kalamazoo College alumni for a match on Sunday, August 30, 2009. The 2pm game will precede the 4pm exhibition between the current Hornets and the Western Michigan University Broncos.  Please contact Coach Adrian to confirm your attendance: cadrian@kzoo.edu

Preseason Dates Announced for Men’s Soccer
Preseason for the Men’s Soccer 2009 campaign will begin Sunday, August 23rd.  Athletes living on campus for the 2009-2010 academic year will check into their permanent dorm room on August 23rd. Check-in will take place from 11am-1pm at the Student Development Center located in the Hicks Center.  In order to be eligible for tryouts/preseason, each athlete must have the appropriate physical and insurance forms turned in by August 3rd. Information can be found on the athletic training webpage or by contacting Coach Adrian. All incoming freshmen must contact Coach Adrian by August 7th to register for preseason/tryouts.

Men’s Soccer Alumni Compete Strongly with Current Hornets in 4th Annual Spring Alumni Game
Men’s Soccer alumni from around the nation once again answered the call back to campus for the 4th Annual Spring Alumni Weekend. The alumni, coached by their mentor, Dr. Hardy Fuchs, fielded a strong team with 22 players dressing for the competition. The current Hornets defeated the alumni 2-0, which marks their first victory in four tries over the talented veterans. An alumni game is the only out-of-season competition allowed by the MIAA and offers the current squad an excellent opportunity to see players perform in a competitive environment.
