Men’s Soccer Alumni Compete Strongly with Current Hornets in 4th Annual Spring Alumni Game
Men’s Soccer alumni from around the nation once again answered the call back to campus for the 4th Annual Spring Alumni Weekend. The alumni, coached by their mentor, Dr. Hardy Fuchs, fielded a strong team with 22 players dressing for the competition. The current Hornets defeated the alumni 2-0, which marks their first victory in four tries over the talented veterans. An alumni game is the only out-of-season competition allowed by the MIAA and offers the current squad an excellent opportunity to see players perform in a competitive environment.

Fourth Annual Spring Alumni Game Announced: April 18, 2009
The Fourth Annual Spring Alumni Game has been scheduled for April 18, 2009. Similar to previous years, a social will be held at The University Roadhouse on Friday evening beginning at 9 pm. The Kalamazoo College Alumni weekend is one of the best attended soccer alumni events in the nation. Alumni from around the country reconnoiter on campus to connect with past teammates and to meet with other players from the program’s past. The current Hornets are eager to achieve their first victory over the talented alumni squad. Hornet mentor, Dr. Hardy Fuchs, will once again be on the bench for his former players.
Steve Hagerman earns All-MIAA Men's Soccer honors
Steve Hagerman, a senior defender from Berkley, was selected to the 2008 All-MIAA Men's Soccer First Team. Hagerman was also a first-team selection last year while earning NSCAA/adidas All-Great Lakes Region Third Team honors. Hagerman earned All-MIAA Second Team honors in 2005.
Men's Soccer season ends with loss to Olivet
The men's soccer season came to an end with a 1-0 home loss to
Olivet on Saturday, Nov. 8. Ater a scoreless first half, Olivet scored
the game's only goal 2:11 into the second half. Olivet held a 12-9 advantage
in shots, although just 3-2 in shots on goal. Thirty-six fouls were
called in the match, 21 on Kalamazoo and 15 on Olivet. Box

Men's Soccer wins at Trine
The men's soccer team picked up a 2-1 victory at Trine on Wednesday,
Nov. 3. Trine took the early lead with a goal in the ninth minute. Kalamazoo's
Steve Hagerman evened the score with a goal in the 42nd minute. Justin
Evans scored the go-ahead goal in the 72nd minute. Each team had eight
shots, although Kalamazoo held a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal. Box

Men's Soccer falls 2-1 to Alma
The men's soccer team lost 2-1 to Alma at home on Saturday, Nov.
1. Kalamazoo's Dane Care scored on a penalty kick in the 32nd minute.
Alma tied the game in the 38th minute and took the 2-1 lead in the 43rd
minute. The second half was scoreless, resulting in the 2-1 final. Kalamazoo
held a 21-15 advantage in shots (10-7 on goal). Box

Men's Soccer suffers overtime loss at Albion
The men's soccer team lost 3-2 in overtime at Albion on Tuesday,
Oct. 28. Albion scored its opening goal just 54 seconds into the contest.
The Britons made it 2-0 with a goal just under eight minutes later.
Kalamazoo cut the lead to 2-1 with Bryan Rekowski's goal off a Justin
Evans corner kick in the 15th minute. The score remained the same through
halftime and into the 77th minute when Kalamazoo tied the game with
a goal by Justin Evans. The score was 2-2 through 90 minutes of regulation
and the first 10-minute overtime period. Albion scored the game-winner
three minutes into the second overtime period. Albion held a 13-9 advantage
in shots, although both teams had six shots on goal. Box

Men's Soccer falls 2-1 at league-leading
Calvin
The men's soccer team lost 2-1 at Calvin on Saturday, Oct. 25,
as the Knights remained undefeated (10-0) in league play. Calvin scored
in the 34th and 59th minutes. Steve Hagerman scored for Kalamazoo in
the 89th minute (Dane Carey assist). Calvin held an 18-10 advantage
in shots (10-5 on goal). Josh Wahlstrom made six saves in goal for the
Hornets. Kalamazoo returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at Albion.

Men's Soccer suffers 3-2 loss to Adrian
The men's soccer team lost 3-2 to Adrian on Wednesday, Oct. 22.
Thomas Lorentzen scored the Hornets' first goal in the 9th minute (Dane
Carey). Adrian evened the score in the 42nd minute, but Kalamazoo regained
the lead with an own goal in the 44th minute. Adrian tied the game again
in the 80th minute and took the lead in the 82nd minute. Kalamazoo had
a chance to tie the game with seven seconds left, but the shot went
wide. Both teams had 12 shots, although Adrian had an 8-5 advantage
in shots on goal. Kalamazoo returns to action this Saturday at Calvin.

The men's soccer team lost 3-1 at Hope on Saturday, Oct. 18.
Hope scored three times in the first half to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.
Kalamazoo's Dane Carey scored in the 69th minute on a penalty kick.
The Hornets were outshot 9-3 on goal. Kalamazoo returns to action at
home on Wednesday, Oct. 22 against Adrian. Box

The men's soccer team lost 2-0 at Olivet on Tuesday, Oct. 14.
Olivet scored in the 16th minute and again in the 86th minute. The Comets
outshot Kalamazoo 16-7, including 9-4 on goal. Kalamazoo returns to
action on Saturday at Hope beginning at 2 p.m. Box

Men's Soccer defeats Trine
The men's soccer team defeated Trine 3-1 at home on Saturday,
Oct. 11. Trine jumped out to an early lead, scoring just 35 seconds
into the match. Kalamazoo fought back and evened the score in the 15th
minute with a goal from Dan Kellogg (Steve Hagerman assist). Philip
Turner broke the 1-1 tie with a goal in the 71st minute (Alex Baker).
Ben Darling added the Hornets' third goal in the 78th minute (Dane Carey).
Trine had a 12-11 advantage in shots, although Kalamazoo converted on
three of the five shots on goal. Trine made one of four shots on goal.

The men's soccer team lost 1-0 at Alma on Wednesday, Oct. 8,
as the host Scots scored the game's only goal with 1:55 left in regulation.
Kalamazoo held a 17-7 advantage in shots (7-5 on goal). Josh Wahlstrom
made four saves in goal for the Hornets. Kalamazoo returns home to host
Trine on Saturday at 2 p.m. Box

The men's soccer team lost 1-0 to Albion at home on Saturday,
Oct. 4. Kalamazoo held a 7-5 advantage in shots, but Albion's only shot
on goal found the back of the net (44th minute). Kalamazoo had two shots
on goal. The Hornets return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at Alma.

Men's Soccer falls at home to Calvin
The men's soccer team lost 4-1 at home to Calvin on Tuesday,
Sept. 30. Calvin remains in a tie for first place in the MIAA, while
Kalamazoo falls to 1-2 in the league (4-4 overall). Calvin scored in
the 25th and 30th minutes of the first half to take a 2-0 lead into
halftime. Kalamazoo's Joe Boss brought the score to 2-1 with a goal
just nine minutes into the second half (Phil Jackson assist). The Knights
pulled away, however, with goals in the 76th and 82nd minutes. Calvin
held a 23-6 advantage in shots (14-3 on goal). Kalamazoo returns to
action this Saturday with a home match against Albion at 2 p.m. Box

The men's soccer team won 1-0 at Adrian on Saturday, Sept. 27.
Philip Turner scored the game's only goal in the 36th minute (Dan Kellogg

Men's Soccer falls 2-1 to #19 Hope
The men's soccer team took a 1-0 lead early in the second half,
but Hope fought back to gain a 2-1 win over Kalamazoo in the MIAA opener.
Joe Boss scored the Hornets' only goal in the 52nd minute (Steve Hagerman
assist). Hope responded with the tying goal just seven minutes later.
The Flying Dutchmen scored the game-winner in the 83rd minute. Hope
held a 14-4 advantage in shots. Kalamazoo returns to action next Saturday
at Adrian. Box

Men's Soccer held scoreless at Oberlin
The men's soccer team fell 2-0 at Oberlin College on Tuesday, Sept. 16. Kalamazoo fell to 3-2 on the season while Oberlin improved to 6-2. Oberlin scored in the 30th minute and led 1-0 at halftime. The Yeomen made it 2-0 just 35 seconds into the second half. Oberlin held a 15-9 advantage in shots (6-2 on goal). The Hornets return to action this Saturday in the MIAA opener against Hope. Men's Soccer holds off visiting Davenport
The Kalamazoo College men's soccer team battled to a 1-0 victory
over Davenport University on Wednesday, Sept. 10, handing the visiting
Panthers their first defeat of the season. Davenport entered the match ranked #20 nationally in the NAIA. Following a scoreless first
half, Justin Evans found the net in the 59th minute off a Joe Boss pass.
Josh Wahlstrom held strong in goal and made seven saves to earn the
shutout. Davenport held a 16-11 advantage in shots (7-6 on goal). Kalamazoo
(3-1 overall) returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at Oberlin College
(Ohio). Box

Men's Soccer held scoreless against Rose-Hulman
Despite outshooting Rose-Hulman 9-4, Kalamazoo suffered a 1-0
defeat at home on Saturday, Sept. 6. The Engineers had just two shots
on goal, but one found the back of the net eight minutes into the second
half. Kalamazoo had five shots on goal, but all were saved by the Rose-Hulman
goalkeeper. Kalamazoo falls to 2-1 with the loss, but is right back
in action on Wednesday at home against Davenport at 4 p.m. Box

Steve Hagerman named MIAA Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Steve Hagerman, a senior from Berkley, Mich. (Berkley HS), was named MIAA Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week after spearheading a Hornet defense that allowed just one goal in wins over Defiance, 2-0, and Mount Union, 2-1. He also scored an insurance goal in the win over Defiance. He is being honored as MIAA Player of the Week for the second time in his career.
Men's Soccer holds off Mount Union
The men's soccer team improved to 2-0 with a 2-1 win over Mount Union at Defiance College on Saturday, Aug. 30. The Hornets got on the board early (11:29) with the help of an own goal. Mount Union tied the game in the 69th minute, but Kalamazoo regained the lead just three minutes later when Justin Evans found the net. Josh Wahlstrom made two saves in goal as the Hornets outshot Mount Union 14-7 (6-3 on goal). Box Score
Men's Soccer wins 2-0 in season-opener at Defiance
The men's soccer team won 2-0 at Defiance on Friday, Aug. 29. Philip Turner scored the first goal 30 minutes into the first half (Sam Groppi assist). Steve Hagerman scored the second goal in the 60th minute (Ben Darling). Kalamazoo outshot Defiance 27-4, including 11-1 on goal. Josh Wahlstrom earned the shutout with one save in goal. Alumni Swarm Campus, Tie Current Hornets 2-2
The talented Kalamazoo College Alumni squad remained undefeated in the 3rd Annual Alumni Game. Once again, alumni young and old demonstrated their commitment to the Kalamazoo College Men’s Soccer program by swarming campus in large numbers. Alumni from around the country came together to support the current team and pay tribute to the past. The alumni team, headed by Coach Hardy Fuchs, took an early two goal lead, but the current Hornets rallied to end the game in a draw. Festivities were held throughout the weekend, which allowed current players the opportunity to reconnoiter with their predecessors.
Hornets Travel to Guadalajara, Mexico in Preparation for 2008 Campaign
The 2008 Hornet Men’s Soccer team will spend August 9-16 in Guadalajara, Mexico preparing for their 2008 campaign. La Universidad Tecnologia Monterrey, university champions of Mexico, will play host to the Hornets. Kalamazoo will play against universities and professional clubs such as Chivas, Atlas, and Tecos. The team will lodge themselves at the Real Chapala hotel outside of Guadalajara. La Universidad de Tecnologia Monterrey will look to visit Kalamazoo the following year. Fundraising efforts are ongoing to pay for the summer trip.
