Kalamazoo fights for win over Adrian

KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team earned a hard-fought victory tonight, defeating Adrian College 78-73 in Anderson Athletic Center. The score was even at 34-34 at halftime. There were nine ties and 11 lead changes in the game. Adrian had the largest lead of the game, 56-47, with 10:30 left in the game.

Kalamazoo's three seniors shouldered the load offensively. Brad Phillips and Steve Thwaites each scored 18 points. Adam Verseput scored 15 points with seven rebounds and five blocked shots.

Kalamazoo shot 50.0 percent for the game, including a hot 57.1 percent in the second half. Adrian was held to 43.1 percent. Dan Walter led the Bulldogs with 23.

Kalamazoo held the rebounding edge, 35-28.

Kalamazoo earned its tenth win of the season tonight, and travels to Hope College on Saturday to face the Flying Dutchmen at 3:00.
