Kalamazoo falls at Defiance

DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Kalamazoo College men's basketball team lost 82-65 at Defiance College tonight, marking the fourth loss in a row for Kalamazoo.

Kalamazoo opened the game with a 10-2 run and led by ten points (21-11) with 9:17 left in the first half. Defiance battled back and held a 38-31 lead at halftime.

The Hornets cut the Defiance lead to six (48-42) with 13:02 left in the game before a 17-2 Defiance run put the game out of reach at 65-44.

Brad Phillips led Kalamazoo with 22 points and four steals. Steve Thwaites added 11 points with three assists. Adam Verseput had a team-high five rebounds.

Kalamazoo turned the ball over 26 times while Defiance gave it up 28 times. The Yellow Jackets dominated the boards and held a 44-25 rebounding advantage.

Defiance shot 48 percent from the field while holding Kalamazoo to 39 percent.

Kalamazoo falls to 10-13 overall (4-9 MIAA) and hosts Calvin College on Saturday in the regular-season finale at 3:00.
