Men's Basketball drops first game of season at Wabash

It was not a pleasant return to Crawfordsville (Ind.) for head coach Joe Haklin tonight. A graduate of Wabash College, the Hornet mentor saw his squad drop their first game of the season 55-54 to the Little Giants in the first round of the Pete Thorn Invitational.

After trailing 28-26 at halftime, Kalamazoo saw its deficit climb to double digits midway through the second half. The Hornets fought back to within one point with less than 10 seconds remaining. A Kalamazoo baseline jumper went in-and-out sealing the 55-54 win for Wabash.

Brad Phillips led all scorers with 19 points. Adam Verseput pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds while adding nine points. Dirk Rhinehart and Luke Weatherhead added eight points each.

Kalamazoo shot 40 percent from the field while holding Wabash to 32 percent. The Hornets will face Elmhurst College in the consolation game on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
