Phillips leads Kalamazoo past Goshen

Brad Phillips surpassed the 1,000-career point mark with a 24-point performance against Goshen.
KALAMAZOO - Brad Phillips had a career night while guiding Kalamazoo College past Goshen College tonight, 91-64. Phillips led all scorers with 24 points on his way over the 1,000-point plateau. The senior guard from Sturgis, Michigan stands at 1,011 career points two games into his final season in the orange and black.

The Hornets also received solid performances from their two other seniors. Center Adam Verseput scored 18 points while pulling down seven rebounds, including four on the offensive glass. Point guard Steve Thwaites added 11 points.

Kalamazoo shot 52.5 percent from the field and scored 37 points off 24 Goshen turnovers. The Hornets turned the ball over 16 times and outrebounded the Maple Leafs 40-25.

Kalamazoo (2-0) is off to its best start since the 1994-95 campaign when they began the season 3-0. The last time the Hornets scored over 90 points in back-to-back games was in 1990-91.
